White earthenware majolica, each individually hand thrown and then turned, additions applied, such as beaks, then glazed and designs painted directly onto the unfired glazed surface. The pieces then receive two firings in the kiln, in the first, the ‘biscuit’ firing the pieces turn from clay to ceramic, these are then decorated with a glazed surface and fired again, during this firing the design sinks into the glaze and becomes integral to the piece and so will never fade.
